That may be taken as offensive indeed, but that doesn't alter the truth of the argument, one way or the other. We human beings are animals and whether you like it or not, we are genetically identical to our homosapien Stone Age ancestors. Despite living in technologically advanced societies complete with various supermarkets, trains, cars, elavators and lifts we have not physically changed from being hunter-gatherers who had to endure shortages of food. Consequently, we are naturally inclined look for fat, sugar, starch and salt, because, prehistorically speaking, these things were very hard to find. So, when we see them in great amounts, our bodies find it tough to say "no".

Fat collects in two forms -

White adipose tissue - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stored for energy and insulation.

Combine that with people living in colder climates, whereby heat is also a scarce commodity, then fat is very valuable indeed; especially brown fat which can be burned by the body to produce heat.

Brown adipose tissue - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is increasingly well understood by the scientific community.

The differences between how we have evolved, and the amount of food we have access to now is at the very heart of the issue. Evolutionarily speaking, we aren't different to our Neolithic ancestors, who didn't have access to McDonalds and if they did, they'd be fucking huge.

This is a good book to get started -

I like to use the "Money doesn't buy you happiness" analogy. I happen to disagree with that statement. The reason being, for every one filthy rich person you can find that's unhappy, I can find 1,000 impoverished people who are just as unhappy. Just as you can find one person who is skinny to the point of health complications, and I can find you 1,000 people who are pre-diabetics or worse. It's all relative.
Not sure about the money happiness thing, I'm afraid you lost me there... Being too skinny does cause serious health complications if you're anorexic or bolemic, something which the fashion industry does seem to some extent encourage. This is similarly well understood -

That's not the whole point, it's an economic issue as much as anything else, though skinny people can be just as unhealthy -

My point was this, to be a successful company you need to sell products, if you want to sell lots of products then why restrict your product range to within a certain size when large proportions of the population exist outside of that size.

In my own opinion, I think that bigger girls look cuter in it than the skinnies. If you think about it, Lolita is pretty much based off of old Victorian and 19th century dress. In those days, it was the fat ones who were considered attractive. This opinion might also be a little biased. (life-long civil war reenactor) I've seen a lot of bigger people wearin the vintage style in my day. Haha. But I think that both skinny people and bigger people can pull it off.

Who has the right to say that you can't wear something because of your size? It's expression. Why deny somebody that right just because they "don't fit the standard?" Beauty isn't only on the exterior, but the interior as well. Someone can be skinny and beautiful, but still be hideous on the inside. It all comes back to judging. Don't judge. Didn't we learn that as children?

regarding size and shape. i'm sure there are a few ways to alter and redesign clothes. the "fat" girls clothes may not look great with the "skinny" one and vice versa. Virtual Fashion Works here's where i got my designing toy. it's totally fun.

I am really indignant. Why a fat girl can't wear a lolita dress? I am fat girl and still wear my lolita dress. I think my sweet lolita dress help accentuate my cuteness.

Enjoy

I think it depends a lot on the person, their atittude, and fashion sense. Ive seen some skinny chicks that couldnt pull off loli because it just didnt suit them whereas someone overweight totally rocked the look.

It's their body everything is up to them. I admit that sometimes I see people wear or have hairstyle that's very mismatch to them, but do I have the right to stop them? NO! because it's their right so eventhough I don't like them, I got to respect them. That's the rule of the society. You don't need to agree, but you got to respect!

I think slender girls pull it off better. The Lolita style though has never really appealed to my taste. It reminds me of little girls, and I'm not really into that loli pornish stuff. >_<"
I think girls, that are overweight, should stop trying to squeeze themselves into something that doesn't fit. Not all clothes will fit EVERYONE - and that's a fact.

I actually have a tshirt from walmart form the boys' department (no one saw that..). WITH SPIDERMAN! YEAHH! In general many Americans are obese - but they are a lot of people in a big country. So it makes sense.
