Cost - 11-14-2006, 03:12 PM

Some kimono actually cost more than a western style wedding dress...unless its a vera Wang dres..lol...
They can cost up to $100,000 I've heard.
Glad my wife didn't want one :-)

Some of the kimono pictures I posted come from catalog and have the price dislayed. Remove the last two "0" of the price tag and you will know roughly how much they cost.

Yukata are the most inexpansive kimono. Furisode are very expansive, and wedding kimono are the most expensive. Most Japanese women get theirs handed down from their mother or their daddy will rent it for them on their wedding.

Reposting pics for price :

here pics of the furisode i bought from a stall in harajuku

the furisode cost ¥7000, about £35 then (£30 now, conversions changed!), and the obi was ¥4000 (£20) both are embroided, im not sure about the furisode, but i knoe the obi is machine embroided. i also bougt under garments and tabi and some geta, bu i cant find them atm, i may have left them at Oxford
i also have a cotton yuata i use for a dressing gown, but its nothing special

here we go...

the lovely lady holding the hem for me is my housemate abby, yes i have her permission to have her pic online

more detail and the Obi

detail of sleeves and the Obi

what you think, did i get my money's worth?

It's still beautiful.

This summer at the Fair I went to the Japanese exposition and the Collection du Japon boutique had a beautiful furisode on display. Pink silk with weaved-in swastika patterns, it was embroidered with a scene of sakura trees, cranes and a rising sun. I was drooling all over it, thinking of how happy my Kunoichi would be to own such artwork. Unfortunately with the obi, tabi, getta, and all the other necessities the final price tag went over 3000 dollars (Canadian, but still). That was out of my league and I settled for a more ordinary kimono T_T

If only I had one million dollars TT_TT
