I always liked having it cold with wasabi and a wee bit of soy with a bowl of rice on the side.

Once I tried nattō at a host family's house in Yokohama last summer; it stinks like hell and it tastes like crap. Not many Japanese like it either. I'm not trying to offend the Japanese, though; all other Japanese foods are awesome
