Is suppon made from any available species of turtle or just from the soft-shell turtles? Here in the U.S., most turtle soup uses snapping turtles because of their availablility and because several others that used be harvested for food are now in danger of extinction.
I have heard of the turtle blood being served, but not with anything in it. Only an open mind and open heart can be filled with life. ********************* Find your voice; silence will not protect you.

In Japan, only the soft-shell turtle is used for cooking. As a matter of fact, suppon is the name of the turtle. In recent years , however, more suppon have been imported from China than grown domestically.
As for the blood, yes it's served fresh all by itself. I also need to inform everyone here that suppon is in no way a popular food. It's very expensive (more so than the blowfish) so only the gourmet types as well as athletes and people trying to recover from illnesses go eat it. |

People definitely do not try to eat it once a week. Wow, how incredibly expensive and pointless that would be...
Suppon is sort of famous as an aphrodisiac, and seems to be consumed mainly by people seeking those effects. |
