There are both kinds.

At bowling alleys, arcades and some parks, you have vending machines that serve hot food.

At some restaurants, you will see a ticket-selling machine at the entrance. You buy tickets there and show them to your waitress.

An example of a hot food vending machine.

That machine in the Video is the one i see most off the times. I´ve also seen machines wich will give you cupramen with hot water. And i have seen a Vending machine selling eggs on a parking Area (so called "michi no eki")
