Piercing the eels head with a metal spike, then slicing it's body open, it's just barbaric.

well most people put a little blob in their soy sauce and it adds a bit of depth

OR

You could have a party and do sushi roulette. absolutely SMEAR it all over the rice, and cover with fish/veg whatever, and its always funny to see people pick the wrong one..evil but funny.

I once invited my friend to come with me to a japanese restaurant to eat some shushi and i told her wasabi was delicious and that she should try it (obviously i was mocking her) and she actualy tried a big chunk of it. And guess what? She actualy liked it.

Too many people spend money they haven't earned, to buy things they don't want, to impress people they don't like.

That is disgusting!

I often ate lunch with my US colleague from California when we resided in Japan.

Man, the way he consumed was absolutely attrocious.

Did your friends mention the other stories of killing styles for the fish?

I have seen the TV shows. You know they even have little machines to make a fish's tail twitch. That's kind of false advertising.

If you are eating raw fish, wouldn't you want it to be as fresh as it can be?

They will try anything

I remember a scandal with Onsen's using "natural" spring water.

Definitely that Freshness seems so important for most Japanese, but you wouldn't get that near my moth in that state of motion.

I was at a traditional Kyoto Izakay one Staurday night with a senior male Japanese friend, and for the occassion, the Izakaya owner served us a complimentary plate of raw chicken Sashimi.. YUK!

Of course being polite, I held my breath, my beer flooded mind, and downed a few pieces with a further quick swish of Kirin.

It took me to the bathroom silently bringing it all up..

It was the thought more than the taste!

If you have psyched yourself out of eating fresh raw fish, then you have psyched yourself out of eating fresh raw fish.

It's all mental.
