Curious about traditional japanese table setting -
06-24-2009, 10:15 PM
I googled Japanese table setting and saw a few pictures, but was hoping someone could share their photo of a table setting.
Also, for serving "ice tea" and not "traditional japanese hot tea", what is the best container to serve it in? Is there a special shape of glass or container to use that would not effect the authenticity of my table setting. At Japanese restaurants, everything on the table will be authentic looking and then they serve ice tea in a western glass which doesn't complete the look. Any suggestions here? |

If you really really want to be picky, and are trying to make some sort of display of old fashioned Japanese table settings -
are about as "traditional" as you can get. From what I understand these are the types of glasses that have been around for 100+ years. |

Thanks for all the replies. Nyororin, do you have a link to an online site to purchase those glasses? (they look great)
I realize that just a regular glass is fine and I can continue to use my western ice tea glasses. I was just curious about what other people used. |

It is called as 切子細工 or 江戸切子(kiriko-saiku/zaiku or Edo-kiriko).
Ask Google for kiriko glass or 切子 to find the venders. Links to Japan forum Tips : 1) How to remove spam massages on you screen 2) How to post Youtube movies or Pictures ... and Ask professional translator for your business work. You can not get useful business resources for free. |

Ahh, that makes sense. I have just noticed that sometimes visitors here seem surprised when its served. Maybe its because restaurants assume and don't ask whether we want hot or cold tea.
