Hey all, I'm in the middle of a particularly good かつ弁当 and I was wondering:

Do any of you actually eat that shredded paper crap?

(The crap next to the katsu)

I try every time, bless me I try, but I just can't choke it down. Ugh.

i love me some shredded paper crap.

helps the crap flow easier the next day, tiny amount of fibre but every little helps.

they normally have a goma style dressing to make it more palatable though.

Yeah, usually, but this one didn't have it. Actually I think ready-to-order bentos ("bentoes"?) don't come with it... I dunno. The girls behind the counter were laughing quite a lot when I walked away to wait for my order... maybe they consipired to make my bento experience just a little bit miserable.

huh, its been a while since i've had a bento but yeah youre probably right, might taste funny after it gets nuked. although i remember certain ones do come with sauces.

i would give the girls the evil eye next time, while waving a bottle of goma sauce in their faces. that'll teach those conbini temptresses!

Haha I'll try it. This time I got it from a KYK in the Kíntetsu. The conbini girls make me laugh though... they work extremely hard at caring as little about their job as possible. To the point, in fact, that commercials and dramas have started poking fun at it. We're talking ギャル-style, hair-twirling, gum-chewing, big glittery fingernails-having girls who only look up from their keitai long enough to scan your stuff and take your money.

Makes me smile every time

haha i would welcome that for a change. all we've got down here are lawsons and family marts, and a couple am/pm's,..... and there's only been one slightly cute check out chick that i've seen.

the rest are mainly middle aged women with massive glasses for some reason.

It's cabbage. And it's called キャベツ.

Well, it's SUPPOSED to be cabbage. I'm still convinced it's just the excrement of a paper shredder machine.
