Instant noodles! - 10-15-2009, 09:07 PM

Just wondering what are your favourite instant Japanese noodles/dishes?
I always love making Tonkotsu Ramen by Sapporo Ichiban. They can come in packs like this:

Another favourite will have to be instant Yakisoba. I've enjoyed many variations different brands by including this one:

I'm willing to try some other ones if you guys recommend them!

Haha. I haven't been able to try out Japanese Nissin Ramen. The only ones available here are the Hong Kong versions, so I can't say if there's a difference, or what is better!

There are lot's of instant noodles here in UK, I find them to be cheap convienient and nutritious, they come either as pot noodles where u pour hot water and add flavouring sachet or in packets where you boil them in a pot then add satchet, my fav is vegetable flavour and I prefer them dry than as a soup, I add boiling water till theyre hot then drain and mix in the flavour, really weird I kno but I love them topped with hot sauce and natural yogurt!

Cheap and convenient, sure, but nutritious? It's mostly sodium and starch.

I am looking at a pack of Sapporo Ichiban Miso flavored noodles right now.

This little package claims to be THREE servings...I know people that eat two or three packages at a time.

So this package has 48% of daily recommended saturated fat and 84% of daily recommended sodium (almost 2000mg of sodium in one pack)

So don't eat instant noodles for the health benefits, please...

I guess you should see poor university students living on instant noodles.

There are plenty of unhealthy Japanese foods. High on the list: Instant Ramen.

And the cheaper the instant ramen the higher that sodium level goes!
The two I alternate for work lunches are a bit better most, but without a good diet to offset them I would expect health problems.

Paldo Kimchi Ramen: fat 16%, sodium 50%, Carb 12%, Vitamin A 5%
Paldo Chorella Ramen: fat 13% sodium 35% (832 g), Carb 13%, Calcium 9%

After having the real stuff in Japan, the instant ramen is merely a disappointing reminder to me. That and the sodium content keeps me away from them.
