Ramen Robots - 11-21-2009, 10:43 AM

At Fa-Men, a ramen shop in Nagoya, it's the robots that cook ramen for you, instead of the usual ramen chefs wearing tee shirts and baseball caps that you see all over Japan.

These cooking robots aren't exactly cheap but once you install them, they certainly will work hard for free. I just saw this on the news and I can't wait till I go home to Nagoya for New Year's and try a bowl there.

You can not make a person love you, all you can do is to be a person who can be loved.

Wow, that's one pretty neat bit of engineering. Although... I feel a little sorry for the human ramen chefs.

I had to do a search and figure out where this is...
第2アメ横ビル・・・
Yep, 大須.

My husband used to have a part time job in that building.

i would say the same thing too. although this one moves funny like a real robot comparing to other "robots" in factories (or at least the factories that i've seen for other countries)

I wonder if the robots are faster in making ramen then the chefs...

From the movie... I would say quite a bit slower. It looks like everything has to be set up by people to begin with (meat in little trays, the broth itself, noodles in their little trays, etc). The only thing the robot seems to be doing is sticking the noodles in boiling water, stirring them, (poorly) draining them - putting flavored oil, then broth into the bowl, dropping the noodles into the bowl then (poorly) dropping meat and such on the top. More like "preparation" than cooking... The only "cooking" the robots seem to do is boiling the noodles.

Quite cool to watch, I`m sure, but a bit of a stretch to think of them as cooking the meal.
