To use up some long grain rice in the back of the pantry I mixed it 1:1 with barley. Sticky enough to hold together for onigiri (almost too sticky), but somewhat different texture.

I loveee onigiri! My favorite midtown NYC cafe makes them with shrimp tempura. It's awesome.

I made them for the first time ever a few days ago. Our food stores have very limited supply of "exotic" foods, so pickled plum, which was what I wanted to try, was nowhere to be found so I used spicy pickled garlic instead. Tasted great! And kinda hot.. And my cat went nuts about nori haha ^^

Gotta love onigiri. it's sad though, my friends can't tell onigiri apart from some sushi stuff.

I just go to Marukai or Mitsuwa if I crave Japanese food. I'm actually going to Marukai tomorrow.

灼きおにぎり!

it's good, an awesome thing to but in bentos. I haven't heard suggestions for filling inside of it anywhere else, any ideas?

I have made ongiri once and i invited my best friend and he's reaaallly against japanese stuff but he actually liked the onigiri that i made even though i didn't have pickled plum but i put in some home made raspberry jam instead and it became quite a success
