Well, being raw it's not cooked out.
The poison part is cut out & the chef needs a liscence to be able to prepare it. People take great pleasure in eating as close to the poison part as possible as it gives a euphoric buzz!

Fugu is

The few people that I know that don't like sushi is mostly because they don't like fish. I don't like sushi because I don't like rice and I'm not a big fish eater. My husband LOVES Japanese food, so when we go all I order is Maguro (Tuna the least fishiest of the fishies) sashimi and some yasai (vegetable) tempura with straight white vinegar (which freaks out the chefs..) I don't mind ponzu except when I ask for it they mix it with tempura sauce..and I don't like tempura sauce.
I don't know if it's different in Japan or if a previous post mentioned it, but Sushi is just rice wrapped in nori (seaweed) with a lil surprise in the middle. Which can be raw fish if you order it, or seared or veggies or cream cheese or whatever the hell you ask the chef to put in it. Perhaps the Japanese chefs out here in California are more lenient? Creative? Dunno.. But when I visit Japan I'm gonna lose some weight for sure ><

Yes ginger, and no it is not hot. It just has a strong flavor to cleanse your taste buds in between different sushi cuts.
