As a person who lives in Hot Springs Arkansas, how should I go about getting my hands on some authentic restaurant ramen?

Last time I had any of that was back in Japan.

Q: Who cares what other people think?!?!
A: Japanese people do.

I've had a terrible time finding even half-way decent Japanese food in the US, except for a few places in San Francisco's Japantown (which is a 4 hour drive for me, 1 way, so not easy to do when I'm just craving Japanese food). I'd say try the Japanese restaurants in your area, and maybe 1 will turn out to be pretty good, if you're lucky.

Do you live by an asian market that sells like the Sapporo Ichiban, チャルメラ = charumela, and Nissin brand? That is the closest you will come but it's still no comparison to authentic restaurant ramen.

That's mine too, but the brand that my store used to carry that had oriental flavor, is no longer at my store. I need to buy it online now.

Sapporo Ichiban instant ramen? Yeah, the wal*mart here actually sells it. Boy is it salty lol.
There's also weird(weird as in funky and unusual, a good thing) nong*shim korean instant bowls kimchi and picante and another flavor, all very spicy. Personally my favorite instant ramen.

Ummm...Asian food place? I think we used to have one, but it went out of business I think. It didn't have very good selection anyway, very little of the food was Japanese. They mostly carried Southeast Asian food.

*sigh* I'm screwed unless I go back to Japan I guess.

San Fransisco? Do you know how many hours I would have to drive to get there from Arkansas? For the time and gas money I'd rather just buy a ticket to Japan.

I, sadly, have not a proper ramen experience. Maybe someday...

Well, I actually have had Sapporo Ichiban and Nissin. I didn't know those counted. I've added things like boiled egg, meat, carrots, mushrooms and other things to make them as "authentic" as possible. I tried Miso Ichiban and it was quite good.

Ivan Ramen - anyone in Japan who can try this? - 02-10-2008, 02:16 AM

Japanese slurping up U.S. chef's ramen | The Japan Times Online

If you read that article which came out yesterday, it writes about Ivan Orkin, an American chef who studied ramen and opened a shop in Setagaya Ward, Tokyo. It's apparently rated #7 among top ramen places in Tokyo and people love it - it's "high level."

Anyone eaten there yet?
