Just had a potato croquette lunch at a cafe next-door, complete with rice, salad, miso soup, pickles and iced coffee. Paid 850 yen in total. And they keep saying Japan is expensive...

Well if one insists on eating like a westerner in Japan it will be expensive. But personally I would enjoy not being bombarded with such heavy food and obscenely large portions.

My usual lunch of kimchi ramen, sesame nori, and tea costs me less than $2.50. If I go out to lunch, I can't even get a fruit smoothie for that, and I will probably spend closer to $10.00 if its not fast food.
