Having trouble with a easy translation -

I've looked all over other forums and on google, but to no avail.
How do you say I am learning Japanese? Am I even close?  Watashi wa gakushu no Nihongo desu. The first step to eternal life, is you have to die. Death begins with life's first breath and life begins at touch of death.

no,
if you're really attached to the gakushuu word, guess you could say: 私は日本語の学習者です watashi wa nihongo no gakushuusha desu i am a learner of japanese...which is meh. stick with the old stand by 私は日本語を勉強しています watashi wa nihongo o benkyoushiteimasu. i am studying japanese
