OK, another addition to previous post, if anyone wants to read through deathnote with me, especially if you're rather new to Japanese (veteran is fine too though) and you want to be like a deathnote reading buddy to me and a couple other people (as that may work better than what I have here) please see this link

http://www.japanforum.com/forum/anim...ing-buddy.html

and post your IM sn there.

Hey folks, if you're a Japanese speaker, and willing to help me please contact anytime on AIM:

Even if you're not too good, I am not either and it would be fun to learn from each other.

I know what it means in English, because I figured out roughly what it means and then translated it, but could someone literally translate for me what this means, like as literal as you can get, so it is still grammatically correct in English:

なぜそんなにおどるく

OK, so the なぜ I know is why, but is written in kanji in my book, and that kanji is note available for those characters on my computer, and same deal with おどる、they, too, are in kanji in me book, but unavailable for my computer.

Thanks a lot.

You sure it's おどるく and not おどろく?

This is not a guessing game. Befron is a very serious Japanese-learner. Please don't post your random thoughts in his threads.

なぜそんなにおどろく = Why are you so surprised?

(I said 'you' but the subject is omitted here. The context will tell who it is.)

なぜ・・・・・・why
そんなに・・so much, that much, to such an extent
おどろく・・・to be surprised

Ok, thanks, that helps a lot. I kept trying to translate nani as what. That didnt work, which messed the whole translation up for me. Thanks again

It's not なに but そんな[space]

"そんなに" to that extent.

Since I'm done with all of my work for the week (paper writing) I'm ready to start reading along with you. How far along are you, Befron?
