Lord of the ring translation

Hi all! I'm a beginner in Japanese and in order to learn it I'm trying to translate Lord of the rings subtitles... however I have some problems, for example:
７つは偉大なる採掘士にして岩の館の細工師であるドワ ーフに与えられた。
I think the translation is: 7 (rings) is given to the dwarves who are the craftsmen of the halls of the mountains and even great miners.
Is this right? I have some doubts about the meaning of "にして" and "採掘士", moreover I can't figure out what なる stands for (in the beginning).

I guess that the language of the Lotr is too difficult for a beginner, but now I've already started translating it and so I'd like to finsh it!

Well my japanese is not so advanced to translate that, but I could try to translate you in english from my french books !

"Three rings for the Elven Kings under the sky
Seven for the Dwarves Lords in their houses of stone

偉大なる採掘士 miners who have attained greatness (in mining) (naru is to become)
the nishite is not important here.....maybe. i think it is something but I don't know how to explain it and i think its probably wrong '

I would translate it as " 7 were given to the great miners; the dwarvish craftsmen in their halls of stone "

damn it! now i really need to know what it is now :P

Could it be "7 were given to the dwarves since they became known as great miners....and so on".??

なる - Archaic conjugation of na adjective. 偉大なる ＝ 偉大な
にして - means 'besides', 'moreover' or 'in' for a term in literary style.
採掘士 - Yes, it's miner. But it would be a engineer than a laborer.

７つは ドワーフに 与えられた。そのドワーフは 偉大な採掘士であり その上 岩の館の細工師である。
I think your translation is correct except '7 is' -> '7 were'.

'and even' would be ok in this sentence. But I'm not sure about the nuance of English phrase, hahaha...
In this にして, に means 'be', して means 'in parallel' same as して in そして.

Just another question:
these are the first lines of the lord of the rings:
世界は変わって行く・・・
私はそれを水から・・・
大地から・・・
大気から感じることができる
かつてあったものの多くは失われそれを憶えている者は 今ではほとんどいない。
物語は力の指輪が造られたことから始まった。

while these are the first lines of Eragon:
はるか昔アラゲイシアと呼ばれる美しい国が巨大なドラ ゴンを操る男達によって統治されていた

Are these texts written in an old/solemn/strange japanese style or are these written in normal modern japanese?
I ask that because if you listen to the italian version of lotr it sounds like a sort of ancient or solemn italian with unusual grammatical constructions and old-fashioned words

That's the first I thought when you said you were translating that movie. If it is like in Italian it is not a good source to learn form, it would be way too advanced. But on the other hand Italian translator might have decided to color it way too much
