Question Need help with the Japanese meaning of my word - 08-16-2008, 05:19 PM

Hi, im currently trying to learn some more Japanese, but im still struggling abit,
anyway, I was wondering if anyone could help me out,
My name is Kim, (im a boy:P) and i know my name is Kimu on Japanese, and was wondering about getting a tatto of my name, with Japanese letters, now that i'm wondering about is if this tatto http://www.eikosart.com/yourname/images/kim-s.jpg

is accurate? does it actually mean Kim/Kimu?

Hoping someone can help me out

o.O Where did you get that information? "Kin" used as Kim? Never seen that in my life and I know a couple people with the name Kim.

That is ONE reading (very uncommon) so if you had that tattooed on your arm people would see it as "kin" or more that likely see it as "gold" or "money" as that kanji isn't seen alone as a name.

To be honest, I have no idea where that lady comes up with those kanji for Western names. She is basically squishing kanji to fit western names with no regard for the kanji's meaning...when the meaning is the essential part of someone's name.

The first character means hollyhock or the "mallow" of marshmallow.

The second character means dance.

Where she gets "Kim" from that is a mystery to me.

aah, Japanese is quite confusing tbh:P
im kinda looking at different pictures that are "supposed" to be another meaning for Kim,

This means, Precious dream? or am i wrong?

aah, thanks thank god i did some "background checking" before i did any tattoing:P, as I would love to have my name in Kanji, on my forearm. but im not taking the risk to walk around with something that is wrong:P
