Kanji for a name, i'm not sure

Hello together!

I have a question about some special Kanjis

It's about the name from Yoshiki...

I have learned today very much (It's difficult to surf on japanese websites that have Kanjis only, without can reading Kanji..*lol*)...

So i have now this:



Now my questions:

- Why this Kanji: 樹 When 木 would also seems "tree" ? Or are i'm wrong?

- It's depend on what if you write it in hiragana or Kanji? Are some words more write in hiragana, or it's just your own choise which to use?

- Can you also write the Kanji like this:

林
佳
樹

And if yes, on what do it depend how you write it?

Why? Why not? You can name your kid pretty much anything. 林 and　樹 don't mean the same thing, either. 林 means 'the woods', which is like a small-size forest and　樹 means an individual tree.

Basically, what words to write in what writing system is set in stone. You don't have a choice. The only people who have a 'choice' are kids who haven't learned any or many kanji. 6-year-old kids usually write everything including their names all in Hiragana. You start replacing the Hiragana with kanji as you learn the kanji. This usually takes a kid a few years.

Yes, you can write Japanese vertically, too. As a matter of fact, vertical IS the original way. Even today, Newspapers, magazines, books, etc. are written vertically, with the exception of some science-related books that have lots of mathematical formulas. So you either write everything vertically or everything horizontally in a given composition. You cannot mix vertical and horizontal.

But how do I know which system i have to use? Is there something like a rule or something that tells me which system? Like a keyword I mean

木 and 樹 have almost same meaning. But 木 have wider meaning than 樹, 木 means sometimes lumber, board, or other wooden materials but 樹 means a live tree. And in the use of human name, 樹 is preferable.

木(on-yomi=boku,moku / kun-yomi=ki(gi))
木刀(boku-tou)Wooden katana
木製(mokusei) made of wood
　　
樹(on-yomi=jyu / kun-yomi=ki(gi))
植樹(shoku-jyu)tree planting
樹海（jyu-kai）ocean of trees

for exanple, your question is like below in Japanese,
あなたがたは、何によってひらがなや漢字を書いていま すか？
いくつかの言葉は、よりひらがなで書かれたりするのか 、または単にどちらを使うかあなたの選択なのでしょう か？

simple rule is like as follows(but not strict)
1.noun:mainly used kanji except easy words or foreign words.
　　何(nani)-what、漢字(kanji)-kanji、言葉(kotoba)-word(s)、選択(senteku)-choice
2.verb,adjective,adverb:mainly used kanji and hiragana conbined like below.
　　書いて/書かれ=書く(kaku)-write、使う-use、
　　単に(tan-ni)-just *単-single/sinple(noun) + に-with = just/only
4.prepsition, suffix form, other short words or very easy words are mainly used hiragana.(many case these cannnot use kanji)
　　は(wa)-is(not verb in Japanese)、や/または(ya/matawa)-or、より(yori)=more
　　あなた（anata）-you、どちら（dochira)-which
*but in case of あなた（=貴方、貴女、貴兄）、or　または（=又は）,you can use kanji on your own choice.

Only young children can get away with this (in Japan) or either those learning the language. At some point, you'll have to start using Kanji. Even though it's a bit difficult to memorize, Kanji makes sentences easier to read.

I agree with you!
I want to add one thing, hiragana is much better than rohmaji.
