Konnichiwa! - 11-21-2008, 02:30 AM

Konnichiwa everyone!

I am 16 years old, and I am currently attending Emerald Ridge High School as a Junior Nice to meet all of you, this looks like an awesome place. Right now, I am taking a Japanese class at my school. My name in that class that I chose was Kunio, so that is what I want to be called instead of my American name

I am learning Japanese right now, we are learning Hiragana this semester and then in the next one we will be learning Katakana, no Kanji until next year That is just a little bit about myself, and why I am here. Felt like I needed to introduce myself

Also, how accurate is this romaji and hiragana that I did? Thank you

Japanese is awesome.
Nihon go monosugoi desu.
にほんごものすごいです。

Heyyy Kunio! Welcome to JF

Man, I wish my school had Japanese... only German, French, and Spanish. Plus Mandarin Chinese as of this year. So jealous of you though! -_- (though I already know hiragana, katakana, and some kanji, I can't speak very much at all, while you get to learnnnnnn >.>) haha so anyways, welcome again, and I think your romaji/hiragana is pretty good there... just I think that it's:

Nihon go wa monosugoi desu-- にほんごものすごいです。

Welcome Indeed!! I wish they taught japanese at my school, they only teach spanish, and it's mandatory...

But yeah, welcome! Also about your little sentence, the person above is correct, you have to use wa (は)and also even though you don't know/aren't learning Kanji yet you should always use 日本語 instead of にほんご when saying nihongo.

You're school has Chinese?! That's awesome, I'd totally take that course! Considering I havn't been fluent in Chinese since...forever, since I started speaking English all the time. I regret now that I was "ashamed" of my heritage living in the U.S. I blame society D¦

くにおくん、こんにちは!ようこそJFへ!

にほんごのべんきょうはたのしいですか。

Glad to hear another JF member is studying our language. Moreover, I'm happy to learn that you are studying it using kana right from the beginning because romaji is never the real thing.

What you wrote in hiragana and romaji is basically correct, but I'd like to make a few suggetsions to make it perfect.

Konnichiwa everyone. > I know this isn't totally Japanese but the natural word order is the reverse. We say みなさんこんにちは.

にほんごものすごいです。 This needs a particle. > にほんごものすごいです。

Add another word and it will sound even better. ことば = a language.

「にほんごはものすごいことばです。」

どもありがと、なごやんけえさん。 = Thank you very much Nagoyankee
ことば = kotoba

Correct?

Thanks for the tips, I am still trying to get used to Japanese sentence order too So, new sentence is:

にほんごことばものすごいです。

Umm.. You put that new word in the wrong place.

It's 「にほんごはものすごいことばです。」.

Also, "Thank you" is ありがとう, and not ありがと. And it's どうも, not ども. You can see what romaji can do to your Japanese. Lots of harm....

Ugh, I hate how Romaji leaves out the "u". Thank you very much, so then then to say "Thank you very much Nagoyankee", it would be:

どうもありがとうなごやんけえさん。

Correct?

And thank you, I am now going to be putting にほんごはものすごいことばです。 into my signature

P.S. My sensei got me into the bad habit of harming my sentences haha.
