hey all. i thought this might help people to learn Kanji. Just post 1 Kanji, how to say it , and what it means and if you can try and use it in a sentence. ill start with one.

赤

"AKA" means red. it can be used as 赤ちゃん Akachan which means baby.

Sentence:

あの女性わ女の赤ちゃんお産んだ
ano josei wa onna no akachan o unda

That woman gave birth to a baby girl

If I may correct, it's:

"あの女性は女の赤ちゃんを産んだ。"

I feel out of place giving corrections since my Japanese isn't exactly great lol, but i'm pretty sure you were meaning to type は and を.
EDIT: I was beaten to the correction.

Anyway, sounds like a nice idea, i'll try one.

町　まち - Town

EDIT: Edited for sentence correction, as pointed out by Nagoyankee a couple of posts down (I changed the で particle that i originally used to に) I'm sorry for the confusion in the following posts
(私は)町の近くに住んでいる。 （わたしは）まちのちかくにすんでいる。
(I) live near the town.

I'll let this sit for the moment, but kanji shouldn't be learned in random order. I don't blame what you are trying to do, Kyousuke. I think it is a noble idea. But one thing I have learned is no one should be trying to learn Japanese from JF.

yeah i know. but its fun to try to better understand kanji and how they are used. even if its in random order.

The prevailing philosophy around here seems to be "we know this method is broken and ineffective, but we're going to do it anyway because we're having fun." Which is cool. But you shouldn't expect results that way.

If you don't mind, could you explain why you would use で　instead of に　here? It seems like they're both being used as a location marker, and I always thought that they were interchangeable in that respect.

i would use "に",,,,, i dont know why it would be "で" in that sentence,,,
i dont see any wrong with this, "私は町の近くに住んでいる"

In my original post i had written で instead of に, so after Nagoyankee had corrected me i edited my post to make the sentence correct.

After seeing that correction something just clicked in my brain and i understand why it is に now and not で

I wouldn't know how to explain it though... But then again i can't explain any English grammar either xD
