verb in て form + いくmeans "going to do something" right? How about おく? After reading the webpage that you gave me, it seems like verb in てform + おく = will do something. Can they be interchanged?

I know the meaning of 言い聞かせて。But I am not quite sure what does it exactly mean in 最後だと言い聞かせて & 最後まで言い聞かせて。

The first one means "I told myself that it's the end" and how about the second one? I know 最後まで measn "until the end"

Thank you for explaining it in details! Harold さん!
It's translated as "I told myself it is the end and I told myself until the end." What do you not understand about the sentence? Is it because it ends with the て form?

I don't know about the other question. Maybe you can ask Nagoyankee in the Japanese language help topic.

I feel you're very confused here. There is no "future tense" in Japanese to start with. We must add "other words" to form a sentence referring to a future event. We cannot do this with the verbs alone.

Interchangeable? ていく and ておく?? No, that is NOT possible. There isn't even a similarity in their meanings and usages.

First, let me explain the use of おく. Added to the -te form of a verb, it means that you're taking the action described by that verb in its-te form in preparation for a future event.

明日はパーティーだ。今日はビールを3ー4ケース買っておく必要があるね。
= Tomorrow is the party. We have to buy 3-4 cases of beer today. (stocking for future use)

夏になる前に新しいエアコンを買っておきたい
I want to buy a new air-conditioner before the summer is here.

来週テストがあるので、それまでにこの本を読んでおかなければなりません。
= Because there's a test next week, I have to read this book by then.

Now, いく. て + いく doesn't mean "to be going to do something". It only means "to do A and then do B".

ご飯を食べて行った。= I ate and went.
いつもこのカバンを持っていく。= I always bring this bag. = I always grab this bag and go out.
セーターが安いから一枚買っていこうかな。= The sweaters are so cheap. Wonder if I should buy one and go. (buy one before I leave this place.)

I hope it's not too early to post the next song. This song actually needs no introduction as it's the best-known Japanese song outside of Japan.

Here is 「上(うえ)を向(む)いて歩(ある)こう」 by 坂本九(さかもときゅう), sadly named "Sukiyaki" in some countries.....
__________________________________________

I am quite confusing about the おかなければなりません in here. おかなければ to me it means "if I don't do it"... but what about なりません?(it's a negative form of なる, right?) So this "double negatives" emphasizes the importance of "I have to read this book"??

LOL It seems that Nagoyankee さん loves sad and old songs, eh? I saw 昭和 XX 年 in the clip... wow it is a really old song! (coz 平成 started from 1989)

「歩こう」って, as the dictionary said, it is a noun; so 歩く is the verb form?

And here are the sentences that I don't understand
上を向いて歩こう 涙がこぼれないように

泣きながら歩く 一人ぽっちの夜

Yes, that "double negative" is the whole point. In this case, negative + negative = rather strong affirmative.

But I would suggest that you remember 「~しなければならない」 as an idiom meaning "to have to do ~" rather than as an expression consisting of a double negative. This is an idiom that we use many times everyday, so we don't really even think of it containing two verbs in the negative form.

"それまでにこの本を読んでおかなければなりません" is really saying "if I don't read this book by then (the test next week), I won't do successfully on the test."

Yes, I do. I find older Japanese songs much better than newer ones, both in terms of melodies and lyrics.

What dictionary said 歩こう was a noun??? It's the "let's form" of the verb 歩く.

~ように means "so that ~".

上を向いて歩こう 涙がこぼれないように = Let's walk looking up so that my tears won't fall.

~ながら means "while doing ~". It's used to describe doing two things at the same time.

泣きながら歩く = I walk while crying
テレビを見ながらごはんを食べる = I eat while watching TV
食べながら話すな! = Don't talk with your mouth full!

同感です。昔の英語の曲も。(例えば Bee Gees, Air Supply)

Forget it, I input the wrong kanji in the dictionary so it said it's a noun. In here 歩こう = あるこう right?

わたしはいつでも勉強しながら、ごはんを食べます。

Speaking of ように, I also notice that it can be used for comparison "it's like..."

For example 夢のように

Yes, ~のよう、~のような、and ~のように are all very useful. You may practice these by filling in the blanks below.

1. マイケル・ジャクソン ( ) 踊りたい。 (おど)る = to dance

2. 夢 ( ) 話しですね。 夢(ゆめ) = a dream

3. 楽しすぎてまるで夢 ( ) です。 楽(たの)しすぎる = too much fun, so much fun

4. あの人はイルカ ( ) 泳ぐ。 イルカ = a dolphin. 泳(およ)ぐ = to swim.

これは... 出し抜けテストですか? (冗談です) Nagoyankee さん you are really caring by giving out this exercise! The best way to learn is by doing, right?

のような is used as a -な adjective and のように is used just like the way に is, is it?

1. マイケル・ジャクソン (のように) 踊りたい。

2. 夢 (のような) 話しですね。

3. 楽しすぎてまるで夢 (のよう) です。
Can this be also written as 「楽しすぎてまるで夢みたいです。」?At the very beginning of our conversation in the other thread, you taught me the phrase 「まるで....... またい」. Can みたい & のように interchangeable?

すぎて -> すぎる?? The whole sentence means "Too much fun that it's like a dream" ?

Kiyoshi Matsuo

(Ti Amo)

キスをするたびに 目を閉じてるのは 未来(あした)を たくないから
抱きしめられると ときめく心は あなたをまだ信じて る
声に出さないまま 「愛してる」...

「僕は弱いね」と 自分から告げた ずるい人だわ あ なたは
時計をはずして 微笑んでくれる 優しい人ね あなた は
笑顔くずさないで 嘘を見抜きたくない
そして自分が訳してみたのが
Quote:
On a Sunday night, the bed so spacious
Sleepless thoughts, like hugging, waiting for the morning to come
There's a place waiting for you to return to
I have understood from the beginning that I can't fall in love with you

What amount of feelings can be considered love?
Please give a name to the feeling of embracing my body

Everything we kiss, I have closed my eyes because I don't want to see tomorrow
When I'm able to hug you, my throbbing heart still believes in you
Like not being able to say a thing, crying out loud "I love you."

My decided words are just tracings
Since a long time ago, I haven't been fit for playful love
People consider love a love where we can't hurt that one person,
but while holding the burden this "crime," we still can possess a readiness to live

When I leave the room, it's not a "Good-bye," I want you to say "Good night."
You let the full end of it hit me, and that was the final act of selfishness
I can't sing a love song alone anymore

If I can see you more quickly, If I can get to know you
Even though I made our paces match,
If I can see you some more, if I can face you
We have even piled up our hearts (Ti Amo)

Everything we have kissed, I have closed my eyes because I don't want to see tomorrow
When I'm able to hug you, my throbbing heart still believes in you
Like not being able to say a thing, crying "I love you."

I told you, "I am weak." You're a sly person
You took off your watch and smiled for me. You were such a nice person.
Don't stop your smiling, I don't want to see through your lies
ボールドの文はあまり分からないのです。多分間違って います。
