You can use both, but officially, 一か月 is correct (or recommended).
(According to a rule of a Magazine Editors) In fact, recently there are some modification made in station names 「霞ヶ関→霞が関」「自由ヶ丘→自由が丘」. Obviously you can't translate place names but if you HAD to, it would be closer to 自由の丘, Freedom Hill. Some words today still use が this way like 我が家、我が国、万が一 etc. |

radio kid, can i just ask, in your signature, do you mean that you've never lived in japan, or any overseas countries before?
i would suppose you mean that you've travelled a lot but have only ever lived in japan. just interesting to note (: |

I don't think the expression is poor. I'm having a bit of difficulty figuring out how chryuop read your sig as if you'd never lived in Japan.
Maybe everyone just has the ethno(?)centrism to think that "overseas" means "overseas from where I live" rather than "overseas from where the speaker lives." |
