Do you know "orz"?

I had believed "orz" is foreign word or symbol. But one day I found it is originated in Japan in 2002.

"orz" is a symbol expressing "depressed man fallen down" used in internet sceen in Japan, Taiwan and mainland China.

ex.
ケータイ落としちゃったよ orz...
I lost my cell phone, orz...

Had never heard of it.

That's very interesting and a new part of my Japanese, as limited as it is, vocabulary

Thank you for posting.

Yeah, playing some video games online that had japanese and english players on the same server taught me 'orz' and 'w'. Granted, all I knew was that 'w' was the Japanese equivalent of 'lol', I only figured out where it came from a year or two ago.

yeah, and the capitalized version is OTZ

I learned them from a Chinese friend a few years ago...or maybe on Mixi or something

Interestingly, one of the head guys in the Obama administration is Peter Orzsag. Obama's Chief of Staff calls him "orz."

Please tell Mr. Orz politely that you are very popular among Japanese networkers.

I've seen it used many times, and it wasn't until a few days ago that I actually took the time to look it up. When I read what it was, it literally click on some text box and typed "orz" and just stared at it. It took me about 5 minutes to visualize the man.

....orz.

Really interesting information. I've seen that word many times but I didn't know where it came from.
