Is this verb an auxiliary?

I have found for the first time this verb...twice within 3 minutes distance
The phrases are:
。。。ねむりこんでしまったのです。
。。。雪がまえこんできました。
Thanks to the whole situation in the book I don't have problems with understanding the general meaning of those phrases. However my dictionary gives me as only meaning for 込む "to be crowded".
It seems it is used here as some sort of auxiliary verb, what type of nuance gives to the main verb?

眠り込む I think is 'to fall asleep' (Maybe a deep sleep, not sure)

I don't know about the other one though.

No, the person was already asleep while his son was next to him awake. At a point in the story a woman comes in and her freezing cold breath covers the body of the man...FIRST PHRASE HERE.
So I assumed while he continues to sleep.

In the second it is talking about what happens inside with the spirit while a big storm goes on outside. The phrase right before my second phrase is 戸がかたんと開き. So I assume my second phrase means the snow was blown inside.

But the two phrases have the same auxiliary, but it seems two different situations, thus I can't catch the neance of 込む.

Oh I see, well I'm sorry I can't be off much help then, since I'm guessing at this point but, from what I remember I thought こむ (other than, 'to be crowded') could mean something like 'to go into' or 'to continue in a state'

I just wish to know when these "auxiliaries" require masu form, te form or ni particle. There semm not to be a specific rule that I can find

Although it isn't an extensive explanation on the subject and unfortunatly it's all in romaji, it's a good site nonetheless.

Yes, 込む is an auxiliary verb. It connotes leaping or being consumed or doing something very hardcore. 飛び込む, 入り込む, etc. I think it tends to connote intensity, but there are exceptions.

So if I well understood you, in my first example it is not simply "the man continued to sleep", but the nueance is "he continued to sleep <no matter what happened before to him>".

It is strange.

混む (KOMU): "to be crowded".
込む (KOMU): [入り]込む ; "Go into".

Is this story of 雪女?

ねむりこんでしまったのです=fell in to (deeper?) sleep. I can not make other translation.

Yes it is. Yea sorry, my bad...I had misplaced the phrase in time. He is falling asleep, in fact it says:
いつのまにかねむりこんでしまったのです I am sorry for giving flase info.

As per the verb (I would scan the page, but it is Japanese-Italian so I doubt you would understand) that's what it says:

こむ　込む to be crowded with something, to be full with something. // 込んだバス crowded bus. 込む時間に at rush hour. 会場は込んでいた The living room was crowded. 通りは車が込んでいる the road is blocked by the traffic.

As per 混む there is not on my dictionary.
