It is a recently coined word roughly meaning "one's own value system" or "one's own axis for evaluating things" that is independent of anyone else's.

I've come across something that I don't understand and I tried looking through kanji lists but to no avail.



The title of this CD is listed everywhere I look as 獅子吼セン鷹志 but in the picture (from the front cover) the kanji doesn't match. I don't know where セン comes from and the fifth kanji seems to be missing entirely. It looks like the title should be 獅子吼鷹 志. Or am I missing something?

What a jump from your romaji questions!

It says 獅子吼鷹鸇志 .

The on-reading of the 5th kanji is せん.

Haha! Yes, I am trying to figure things out by myself for the most part so I don't bother anyone too much here but this one really stumped me. Is there a reason why all the websites list the title as 獅子吼セン鷹志 and not 獅子吼鷹鸇志?

Am I correct that the romaji is "Shishiku yosen kokorozashi"? Oddly, the record label's Myspace page and some other sites list it as "Shishiku yosen no kokorozashi" but I don't know where the "no" comes from.

Oh la la, you are back to using romaji when you are already dealing with a complicated kanji the majority of Japanese do not even know. Can't you read kana? I do not read or write romaji.

I like to put the original names and the romaji in my YouTube videos. I am trying to teach myself so at this point I cannot read it, no. Thanks again for your help!

I've just posted something to Facebook in Japanese, complaining about my body still feeling like a complete wreck 2 days after playing football/soccer and how I used to be able to play every single day in my teens without any problem. One of my friends (Japanese native) posted back 'ハハ。年だね'. From the context, I assume it would mean something along the lines of 'because you're getting old, aren't you' or literally 'It's the years, isn't it', but could anyone clarify?

"It's your age." = "You're getting old."

「年（とし）」 means "age" here.　Writte also as 「歳」.

Cheers Maesugu. I've seen it defined a few times are 'year; age', but I thought it meant age as in either 'era' or age like 'teenage', 'young adult', 'old age' etc. Cheers for the clearup
