No, they wouldn't get a tattoo at all because it's still associated exclusively with organized crime. Tattoo = no job for you in Japan. Also, you can't go into public baths or onsen, and heaven help your social life if anyone sees it.

It is indeed what it means. The second character means "place" or "location," and the first has to do with bodily functions. I guess it literally means "convenience," but the word for pee is 小便 and the word for poop is 大便. I suppose these literally read as "small convenience" and "large convenience."

At first I forgot this, and read the tattoo as "convenient location" (my first instinct when seeing the kanji is always 郵便局 (post office)). But then I remembered the other meaning.

I was aware that it is very looked down upon, and it usually has gang meanings. But I had no idea that you couldn't go to Onsen with a tattoo.

I guess this is because I never went to an Onsen.

I'd check your translation into English before you start the translation into Japanese.

"Makes you dream come true" is not complete English. It does not sound right. Anyone who translates this into Japanese might be giving you a sentence that isn't what you wanted in your own language.

As long as you can cover it with professional dress, it does not hinder you at all.

I have a tattoo on my upper arm. I had a social life in Japan. Hell, it was a conversation piece/starter on occassion.

Hell, I was even told of a few onsens that do accept people with tattoos.

This idea of 'TATTOO = BAD' is not the viewpoint of the younger generations. They are slowly becoming more socially acceptable.
