I learnt most of my Japanese from 60 and over students who refused to let me speak English so I took full advanatge and at the end of each day, my leg was plasteered with Japanese!

I also used to use the young department store girls a lot. Two words spring to mind. 'Bucketsu' and 'Daicon'. The Daicon was one of the funnier occassions when the young girl in the short skirt held it up sky high

Cheers - Oz

I learn Japanese without teacher (autodidact). Usually I learn from a site in internet. It's lucky I've found many good site. Its content is usually easy to be understood. But, unfortunately, many site just explain about Japanese grammar.

Then for learning vocabulary, I need to install an addon in Firefox named Rikaichan (you can search it by Google). That's the best tool to learn that I've ever seen. We just need to move the pointer to the words we don't understand, then the meaning will be displayed included its kanji explanation. I'm sure all the Japanese learner must have been installed this tool in their computer.

Then, we must talk to real Japanese person to improve our ability. They may correct language errors. Just it maybe.

Actually I'm also not good in Japanese. Please add my MSN or YM, so we can learn Japanese together.

I've been messing with the Japanese Coach software for the DS myself, i find it is a good supplement to book learning. One good thing is that it does not allow you to skip ahead. ever. Also, the kana lessons on it is what taught me how to write Kana. It's a fair tool to practice Kana with, as well as drilling yourself on the words. The software also contains a decent sized dictionary. Also, every word comes with an audio pronounciation, which has helped my tremendously and is something you don't get with a book.

For those who can't afford the extremely expensive books, this isn't a standalone substitute, but it will get you started.

The only thing MyJapaneseCoach is good for is to teach you the stroke order of Kana when your a begginner. From my experience it doesn't get more advanced than this. The minigames it uses to teach you are god awful. Theres a strange version of whack a mole where you'll hear a word being said then have to whack the romaji it asked for.. Theres one where you have to use words to form a sentence to construct a bridge, but the spaces only fit the right words in as theyre different sizes so its blindingly obvious where they go.

Don't use it..

I'm sorry for all the bad stuff I said and all the feelings I hurt.. Please forgive me
