It's コン-fusing! - 10-20-2009, 01:02 AM

Just for the fun of it and/or to add a few words into your Japanese vocabulary, try translating the following abbreviations into non-abbreviated English terms. Let us all get コン-fused!

1. 生コン
2. エアコン
3. リモコン
4. 婚活(こんかつ)
5. ロリコン
6. マザコン
7. シスコン

9. パソコン
10. コンビニ

12. コンサバ
13. ツアコン
14. ミスコン

_____

One thing is for sure:

16. 混乱(こんらん) = Confusion!!!

Are these being called components in English now too?
Japanese コンポ is what I would call a shelf stereo / shelf system, or something like that. Component in English makes me think of actual parts or component cables.
But... I`ve been out of the US so very long that maybe they`re called them components now instead of stereos or shelf systems.

If anyone is trying to find me… Tamyuun on Instagram is probably the easiest.

I would say yes, components for your stereo system, etc, but the reality is they exist in fewer and fewer homes, as I am sure is the case in Japan, too.
