english to japanese translation help - 11-26-2009, 06:46 AM

karada ni ii is good for your body, but how do I say exercising is good for your body?
and what's the translation for "end of the semester"?

Why romaji? I know you've been learning Japanese at least close to two years.

I think you can say "運動は体にいい(undou ha karada ni ii)" or
エクササイズは体にいい

few japanese say exercising but say "exercise" in generally.
so you can use it just as it is.

i'm sorry i can't explain well because of my poor english...

運動は健康にいいです。
運動は体にいいです。

You were correct: 運動は体にいい。

In English, we often use the gerund (-ing) as a noun. This is why "exercise is good" and "exercising is good" are both correct English. There is a slight difference in meaning between the two in English: When you use the gerund, it adds a slight connotation of personal involvement. It's almost undetectable, though.

"Exercising is good" sounds slightly like you exercise or are doing the exercising or something. "Exercise is good" sounds a bit more objective/scientific/impersonal.

This is the sense I get, so I looked it up and that's the connotative difference.

exercising is good for your body : undou wa karada ni ii (運動は体にいい = うんどうはからだにいい)。

end of semester : gakki matsu (学期末 = がっきまつ)。

hope this can help you.

"I love you," but it really, really sounds like someone who can't speak Japanese wrote that. A native Japanese (1) would not use 私は there, and (2) would not use 愛する either.
