Questions - 11-28-2009, 06:41 AM

I have several questions about japanese:

1) In Japanese, when would someone speak informally instead of in the polite form?

2) I'm wondering about the usage of 'Boku', whether it is informal or polite. When would someone say: 'Boku, (Name)'?

3) Is this always the order for informal greetings:

Person 1 greeting:'Watashi, (name)...'
Person 2 replying: 'Boku, (name)...'

4) Is the 'ku' in 'Yoroshiku' silent just like the 'u' in 'desu'?

5) What is the difference between informal conversation between boys talking boys, and girls talking to girls? Can guys talk informally to girls?

Sorry for asking so many questions,

Sincerely,

Rob

1) When speaking to people you know very well in non-business/school related situations.

2) Boku is informal, but not the most informal usage of "I" for men.

3) I don't understand the question.

4) No.

5) Yes guys can talk informally to girls.

2)some people use "boku" instead of "ore" when you talk to older people(so it would be in the polite scene).
in polite form,"ore" sounds bit rude(but it's just my opinion...).
so i suggest using "boku" or "watashi" in polite form.

also, little boys tend to use "boku".

I prefer 自分 so I can sound like a military man!
