Finally, you shouldn't use your age and gender as a shield. On the Internet, we are all 16 year old girls.

Unfortunately, this was something that started long before it spilled out into the open. She messaged me, and I gave her realistic advice. Unfortunately, she didn`t WANT realistic advice. She wanted someone to tell her that she is great, special, and anything she decides to do is going to go just fine even if it flies in the face of reason and is illegal.
I did little other than point out that it wasn`t a good idea to be an illegal immigrant and that at the very least she should visit Japan before deciding to throw everything away and live here. When the subject of Sashimister doubting her high Japanese level came up - I suggested that it would be very easy to end the whole questioning of level by simply writing something in Japanese. She said that for some strange (excuse-like) reason she could not type Japanese... So I suggested that I could perhaps talk to her on messenger and pass on the proof of her Japanese ability, as it appeared to be a VERY touchy point with her. (Yes, I will admit that I didn`t expect her to take me up on it, and expected some other excuse to cover for not knowing as much as she said, but I was more than willing to give her the benefit of the doubt. What came was some excuses and more hostility toward me being so incredibly lame that I was willing to help her, which was confusing as I thought she WANTED advice and help.)
Anyway, as anything I said that wasn`t what she wanted to hear made her start into a virtual rant about me not knowing anything, trying to keep her out of Japan, thinking I was better than her, etc - I decided that she didn`t actually want advice or help so declined to waste my time answering questions just to receive hostility. In my experience it has always been better to step back from spoilt teenagers on a rampage than try to reason with them.

From what I can tell, more anger at me declining to continue to answer her questions resulted in this explosion.

(I believe that there were some similar communications between her and Sashimister, but I do not know the details. I also heard from another member that she`d pmed them, and gotten hostile when not told what she`d wanted to hear.)

I hope that she has time to calm down, realize that blowing up and behaving like that isn`t the way to get advice and support, and use the experience to her advantage to become a better person.

If anyone is trying to find me… Tamyuun on Instagram is probably the easiest.

thankyou Nyrorin, I had not realised what was happening, I just noticed that some people were being rather supercilious / And( some) very rude towards her japanese abilities. Not all of course.

Really its often not what we say-- but the way that we say it-- and unfortunately with no tone of voice-- there can be misunderstandings.

I had seen how she had tried to help the O P with some examples-- I still don't know how to type in japanese-- too scared to download something that might make it difficult to revert to English. I still am trying to write the Kana--

The teens can be hard--I struggled terribly with my own teenagers--They often think the whole world is against them--My teen gr children come to me complaining about their parents etc-- I was a very resentful teenager and very rude--I had no family to rail at-- but my employers did not always deserve my rudeness.

its a shame that things turned out as they have-- but hopefully lessons can be learned---

I guess also its alot about self esteem-- or lack of it. Put on a brave face and act in what can be perceived as childish--------manner.

Thank you for explaining-- I am afraid that sometimes I am like a bull in a china shop- if I see something that appears to be a form of bullying-- I will step in. Maybe its my childhood in childrens homes etc-- trying to protect those who are being bullied or made to feel inadequate.

If |Mira does read this thread again-- I hope that she too has realised that if she wishes to learn something-- appreciation and a little humility-- can go a long way. Perhaps her Peers do not know as much of the japanese language as She does. It sure takes determination and desire and devotion.

I still have sooooooooo Much to learn--------------

I think that this is a very interesting subject to ponder, but is going far far off topic here... But it is quite deserving of discussion. I hope you don`t mind, but I`m going to move it to head a new thread.

learn each set of hiragana first by writing each set(preferably each thing for example ''ka'' or ''gi''). Write them each 300 times a day. Do one set before night time, then at night at 9:00 write the whole set once. If you have to do it while thinking more than 4 seconds then repeat the process again. It works, trust me.

What operating system do you run? Basically every single one made since about 2002 already has Japanese built-in. There's even a thread at the top of the JF Japanese Language homepage that explains it.

Hello Kyle-- At my age I tend to be wary of doing something that will mean I can't write in English.

I guess I should be braver. I Have windows XP. Maybe I should return to the guide on this forum and see what happens.

thanks.

ps: I cannot find the thread that guides members to the way to download japanese facility.

sorry to be so useless.

You don't download. It's already installed in XP. Go to settings->international->region/language options or something like that.

Actually, it's fairly easy to switch back and forth;
You'll see a new bar at the top of all the programs you type with (like the top of your browser) you should see 入力モード, clicking on it, you'll see the following options;
ひらがな(H) -- Hiragana mode, this is the one you'll use for typing in Japanese as you can also to type in katakana (type the katakana word in hiragana, press the space bar and it'll turn into katakana, you'll also do this for kanji words; あいすくりーむ *press space* ---> アイスクリーム; とうきょう *press space* ---> 東京)
全角カタカナ(K) Full width katakana, though you don't really need this mode since ひらがな(H) does the katakana words.
全角英数(L) Full width ASCII/English coding, types like this; See? It’s just another En glish font, fun to use th ough not nessecary for an ything I can think of.
半角カタカナ(A) Half width Katakana, like this; ヘロー・エヴリバディ
半角英数(P)
直接入力(D) -- D is for 'direct', this is the mode you'll use for writing in English (it's the mode I'm using right now)

Though I'll warn you, certain programs will be in Japanese after you do this! My anti-virus and some software updates are in Japanese now.
