量る - 02-02-2011, 12:41 PM

Hi, I have a question regarding the following phrases and that is if it is possible to omit the words in bold?

手荷物の重さを量る
weigh baggage

積み荷の重さを量る
weigh a cargo

自分の体重を量る
weigh self

Kid, it is spelled the internet, not enternet.

(Okay Rick I'll be sure to remind "Cayla" (not KID) when she logs back on. I would hate for anyone to have misunderstood what she wrote!
It was just her way of trying to be helpful.)

It's always nice when someone makes it easy to realize they're insane and thus worthy of being blocked.

Hahaha true. Though she's currently PM'ing someone-- I bet it's to you or to someone else about you

@ Maxful
Occasionally I like to Google Japanese phrases with quotation marks to see how common or uncommon a phrase is. After some googling;
手荷物を量る actually seems more common than 手荷物の重さを量る.

積み荷の重さを量る; hard to tell considering the lack of results...

自分を量る also seems pretty common. Though I ain't a native speaker. You may be better off asking in the main big Japanese help thread.

That's the danger of googling phrases when one doesn't speak/write/read at a near-native level. The phrase itself may be common but it sure is VERY uncommon to use it to mean "weighing oneself". It means "to measure one's mental strengh".

Thanks for the good info masaegu! Y'know I actually did wonder if it meant something like that... At least I gave a warning since I'm a far cry from fluent
