Hi, I would like to know if there are differences in the following sentences?
1a. 老人を助けてバスに乗せてあげた。 1b. 老人がバスに乗せるのを助けてあげた。 2a. 田中の禁煙を助ける。 2b. 田中がタバコをやめるのを助ける。 失敗をしない人間はいない。 いるのは失敗から立ち直れない奴と 立ち直れる奴だ。

I doubt native speakers would actually use the verb 助ける in those sentences (situations), particularly the last two. I myself would definitely use 手伝う.
