Kanji Number Help -
10-03-2011, 02:19 PM
Hi, our teacher for Japanese isn't very good with English, so I am having a hard time figuring out how exactly to write out the Kanji for an exercise.
The numbers are: 650 1800 714000 123000 3900000 I know how to write them hiragana, but I'm completely lost on how to write them in Kanji, all I know is 1-10, 100, 1,000, and 10,000. Thanks for any help! |

So 650 is written, 600 50. 1800 is 1000 800 714000 is 701 10,000 4000 123000 is 12,000 3,000 3900000 is 390 10 10,000 So, am I grouping the Kanji based on multiples of 10? 10, 100, 1000, 10000, 100000, ect? so... 65,750 would be like ろくじゅうごまんななひゃくごじゅう or 六十五万七百五十? |

Sort of; you start with multiples of 10 thousand. In 65,750, there are 6 multiples of 10K ie 60,000. So you need to put
ろくまん 六万 next work out your multiples of 1000. in this case, 5000. ろくまんごせん 六万五千 then your multiples of 100, which here is 700 ろくまんごせんななひゃく 六万五千七百 Then multiples of 10 (50) ろくまんごせんななひゃくごひゅう 六万五千七百五十 and then any single digits. So 六十五万七百五十 is actually 650,750. Try these: 124 7456 28,567 64,939 100,400 826340 65 3560 |

124: 飛躍二十四 I hit enter and that popped up? in hiragana i had: ひゃくにじゅうよん 7456: ななせにょん百五十六 um...now only half changed to kanji..im so confused on whats going on with the IME..do I do each one separate? Like this? 何戦四客五十六 UPDATE: Ok, so I did my homework and I compared my answers to mas's post and they are all right! But I still would like to figure out how Kanji works with IME, like when do I hit space to convert to Kanji, such. TY |

You got 飛躍 because you typed ひやく instead of ひゃく with the small ゃ. 7456 is ななせんよんひゃくごじゅうろく. ____________ Reminder for everyone: The three different pronunciations of 百 100, 200, 400, 500, 700, 900 --- ひゃく 300 --- びゃく 600, 800 --- ぴゃく Your Japanese proficiency shall be in direct proportion
to your true interest in the Japanese Mind. |
