You're in Poland? I was born in Kyoto and have lived in Kyoto ever since. You know where it is?
---------------- 'real men drink tea' 真の男は茶を飲む or 本物の男は茶を飲む or maybe, 真の男なら茶を飲め(It's like, 'If you're a real man you should drink tea') or 真の男が飲むのは茶(だ)('What real men drink is tea') 真の男が飲むなら茶(だ)(It's like, 'If a real man drinks anything, it must be tea.') 'だ' is a particle, and can be left out. Adding 'だ' makes the whole sentence sound more determined/manly. |

Oh. I see, then how about '本物の男が茶を飲む'or'本物の男も茶を飲む'? I've changed the particle 'は' into 'が', so it'd sound like 'See, here real men drink tea.' Using the particle 'も' instead of 'が' would make it sound like, 'real men also/sometimes drink tea'. まさぴーってやまぴーのまねですか?んん・・・すみっ ぴのまねではないでしょうけれど。 |

@jmirow2
Masaegu-san advised me in Japanese and told me there's a basic common idea that 'Real men don't drink tea' hidden in the original sentence you posted here. He told me that in Japan people don't usually think 'Real men don't drink tea,' and that Japanese speakers wouldn't understand what it really means if you just translate 'Real men drink tea' into Japanese and put it on a mug. He says the sentence itself would need some explanation when Japanese/Chinese speakers read it, because the custom of drinking tea is so deeply rooted in our culture that real men's drinking tea doesn't sound funny or strange to our ears. There're less and less people and more and more spammers everyday in this forum. Now it's just like a spaceship attacked by aliens, from which all the crews are evacuating because the self-destruct system has been activated. |
