Why/Because - 09-17-2007, 04:25 PM

Hi all. Can you please explain the difference among "naze", "kara" and "node"?
If I'm not wrong they all translate "why/because"

differentiates locate in polite and un polite, then before word of naze, kara or node,
before node is dictionary form verb
before kara is adverb, adjective and masu form verb

see more example at Learn Japanase Language

NAZE, NAN DE, and DOU SHITE all mean "Why"

KARE is the "because" and is used more often in speaking rather than writing.

NODE also means because, and is used more often in writing, rather than when speaking. (When speaking it isn't wrong, but sounds a little more formal.)

So, if I have to say: "Because you didn't say that" I can say: "kono wo yuwanakatta kare", is it right?

Though I'm not familiar with naze I was taught that node is slightly weaker than kara. Like kara is more definite.

Too cool for a yellow emoticon

I have never heard that before. If you listen to public speakers, they tend to use "node" so I don't think that's quite true.

yup "NODE" is formal for "KARA"

"NAZE" is formal for "DOU SHITE" or "NANDE"

also -node is more objective than kara.
and you can use -nde for colloquial expression as shortened version of node. isogunde, takainde, isogashiinde, etc.
