Question Katana tang help:S translation.. if at all possable - 09-27-2007, 03:34 AM

hey, i got a Japanese katana a while back, but I have no idea what the tang reads as rust seems to have got to it over the years... could anyone please help me?

It says "小森勝幸 =Komori Katsuyuki" and this man seems to have been a Japanese Army commission swordsmith around 1940. There is a slight chance that his first name 勝幸 might be read as Masayuki.

Compare the swordsmith's name in your pic with the name on here. http://bidders.auction.biglobe.ne.jp/item/90974219 It's at the bottom of that page.

Google says:

Masayuki = 2690 results (search = 勝幸 まさゆき)
Katsuyuki = 1320 results (search = 勝幸 かつゆき)

So there isn't necessarily any overwhelming evidence as to the Katsuyuki vs. Masayuki reading.

Thanks very much its a perfect match! now i know where to look for more info thanks very much again
il get it polished remounted too and show before and after pics (most likely in a new thread if this ones deleted) so look out for more pics sometime mabye mid next year
