Indeed!!

Anyway your opinion is also non-sense to me, just as mine is to yours If you don't agree that most Anime characters look white but are actually Japanese (look at Naruto for example) then give me a reason why you still disagree.
Another example is Gundamn Wing. All the kids who fight in the Gundams (Heero, Trowa, Quatre, Chang and Duo) have different ethnicities. Quatre is actually an Arab and looks white. Heero is Japanese but looks white. Trowa I have no idea but he looks white. Chang is Chinese but looks white and Duo is the only American is meant to be white anyway.
So it may seem logical to you that an actor look similar to what Anime charater they may be playing but I think the underlying personality should be the same. I just can't picture Justin Chatwin playing the amazingly awesome Goku. On top of that I don't think Goku's hair would suit him either
Ok, let me put it this way. In DBZ, there are the chars UUB, ANDROID #8, ADVISOR BLACK, BORA and some others that don't look white... Should they be played by Japanese also?
And again, so what if they look white or not? They should be played by people that look similar!! What your complaining about makes me think, how can you accept these animes when they look white and have asian culture (because to me, it sounds like you're saying in real life they have to be asian so that their char fits better)? If you can look at chars and see them being white in an anime, whats the big problem with looking at them in a live movie as white white with asian culture (if you insist on calling it asian culture)?

as for the personality, thats up to acting. It has nothing to do with them being asian! Thats like saying a white person cannot act the same as goku because goku is asian and the actor isn't. Thats silly to me, because it depends on the acting!

dragonball live actio movie.

You can't expect them to look exactly the same as all the characters. I mean, Misa in the deathnote liva ction lovies did not have blond hair.

Just, be more open minded about it.
i'm just backing this up mainly cuz stephen chow is producing and i trust he won't do a bad job.

I'm not gonna have an open mind about it because I LOVE DragonBall/Z. Any fan of anything wants the best for what they're a fan of. It's not just how a character looks but the principle of it. If they make concessions with looks and what not then they will also make concessions with the story and everything else.
That is probably one of my underlying problems with this type of project.

As far as that particular actor playing Goku, I just find Goku to have a very innocent quality. They make his actions so child-like, even when he's grown up in DBZ. In fact I think he becomes even more child like after he beats Frieza, having found a new confidence in himself. From the way he responds to people to the way he will sleep.
Anyway my point is that I want an actor that can portray this innocence. If needs be then do auditions till someone fits the bill in the most perfect way possible.
To me Goku should also be played by an Asian person because he just fits that bill. He doesn't have any Western qualities whatsoever which would define him to be played by a Western character. It also reminds me of Hollywood "Whitifying" everything, the same they do with everything and always have throughout history. Just look at movies like The Departed or The Last Samurai. It annoys me that these movies have roles that fit Asians better but they are re-written for White people or played by White people just because it should appeal to that particular audience more.
Bleh I dunno, it's something along the lines of "Keep it the same as the original" that I want, instead of changing it to please the masses.

wow,

anyway. Yeasss, but I guess it will be the DBZ movie, called DB.
My humblest apologies. I did not intend to derogate your input in this thread.

But you are wrong... it will be a DB movie called DBZ (taking The poster posted by Monkey in-to consideration)... although so far it's been called Dragonball and not Dragonball Z all over the internet (including imdb), so i do not think they would make such a mistake X)

And i stumbled across some bad news along the way while looking for movie posters:
Quote:
You can go ahead and make new plans for August 15th, Dragonball fans -- James Wong's live-action adaptation won't be hitting screens that weekend.

It won't be coming to theaters at all this year, in fact -- 20th Century Fox has announced that its big-screen version of the Akira Toriyama manga is being pushed back to April 3, 2009.

According to IGN Movies, the studio hasn't offered an official explanation for the move, but the original release date would have put Dragonball up against Ben Stiller's Tropic Thunder, as well as the theatrical release of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
WTF?! Who the hell cares about that loser Ben Stiller OR the theatrical release of Star Wars???? I bet there are 10 times as much people who would like to see DB on big screen than those who plan to attend any of these other two events combined.... >_<

Anywho, i would like to point out that i find James Marsters to be an great choice for the role of Piccolo... his face does resemble the character he plays and considering his previous roles, he makes a good job at portraying semi-villains.

EDIT: Just looked over the cast in this movie once more and i was rather wtf-ed when i did not saw Krillin in it... How in the name of all that is holy can you have a DB story without this little guy? And who the hell is Teto???

I think it'll be fine, i mean the producer behind this porject is asian and he also grew up with dragonball so maybe just maybe it won't be as contrived as the last samurai.

This one is more Hollywood, not an Anime movie.
