My favs:

RAN
Historical, Serious & Sad.

Death Note
Amusing & Entertaining if you like the general death note idea.

Battle Royal
Has become a modern classic/cult favourite.

Chakushin ari
Of one two Japanese horror film I really liked, most I just do not get at all, usually prefer Korean ones.
The other is about a sort of haunted house with a doll maker and a mysterious ghostly girl in red, that I can't remember enough about to find the name of it

Fighting ignorance and slaying a few narutards whilst I am at it.

Loved Crow Zero; was the first japanese movie that I really liked. Azumi (azumi 2 as well); great action movie however to melodramatic. Grave of the Fireflies Live Action; Very emotional, p.s had tons of tissues on my bed after the movie was finished lool. Honey and Clover; Intersting story line, love the art, great talents
These are just a few of my favorite japanese movies :}

I really love all the Ghibli studio's work, beautiful anims. The grave of fireflies was one of the best, though I practically over cried the second half of it. The Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984) always amuses me with it's quality and the story itself too but every work of their worth to see!!!

I loved watching The Island(1960) from Kaneto Shindô - it's really interesting.
Also seen a few of Kitano Takeshi and Kurosawa Akira - Not many have come to my place though, so I just have to close up with whatever available from other countries.

anybody here saw the movie Sukiyaki Western Django?
The film tells the story of the rivalry of two samurai clans in the form of an western movie. The original audio of this movie is in english and Quentin Tarantino works on it.

Django was really strange...

I pretty much love anything Akira Kurosawa put out... My favorites of his work that I have seen are Seven Samurai and Ikiru... Ran and Dream will be the next ones that I look for to watch...

I also like:
-Zatoichi series (got hooked on them courtesy of IFC (International Film Channel if I remember correctly))
-Death Note 1&2... I haven't seen the third one yet... I'm looking forward to seeing it.
-The Ringu series... I bought a four movie set of them last year on Black Friday for 2 bucks... Best two dollars I ever spent, lol
-Azumi (checked it out because a co-worker suggested it... First time I was ever glad to take his advice, hehe...)

Also want to check out Battle Royale... This is one I have been meaning to watch for a long time, just haven't been able to find it, or I forget when it comes time to rent movies...

A bit off topic.. but does anyone know when the live action Space Battleship Yamato is due for an English language release?

That could probably turn out to be my favourite movie going by the trailer.

YouTube - Space Battleship Yamato theatrical trailer - feat. Steven Tyler's "Love Lives"

Excluding Gibli movies (because no doubt one of those are probably the best)... I think to date "Always Sunset on Third Street" is probably my fave.
