I'm watching an old movie that I remember seeing on TV as a teen because I would watch anything with James Shigeta in it.
"Bridge to the Sun" (1961) is the story of a Japanese diplomat who marries an American just before WWII. When they go home to Tokyo for their honeymoon its an interesting study of the contrasts between the traditional Japanese and western customs, especially the of women in society. While I understood it then, I understand it soooo much better now. And I can tell I am really learning my language classes because I could understand the first scene when Shigeta asks the Ambassor for permission to wed. Normally I avoid WWII movies, but the first 30 min - hour is worth watching if you can find it on TV or on DVD. Only an open mind and open heart can be filled with life. ********************* Find your voice; silence will not protect you.
