Heck i've said it before and i'll say it again. One of Disneys greatest films, The Lion King, was a rip off from an Anime called Kimba The White Lion. Blah@them
They're worse than P.Diddy when it comes to making "something their own".

Well in a way they didn't rip Ghibli off.
For instance someone made the film and it sucked, so another director/writer whatever, remakes the story to how they vision it and ppl like that version better. You can't really blame that person because they did a better job!!!

They did copy it though, as in it was a recent Anime not a classic story like Jungle Book was or The Little Mermaid. They even went so far as to deny it.
But it wasnt Ghibli they ripped off but Osama Tezuka, who more or less invented Anime

Ah i know that Kimba The White Lion anime. But it's normal to be inspired by something when you are creating something else.Everyone haves the own influences. And there's many original things at Disney.Ratatouille only to mention the newest one.

Eh, there's really no competition for me. Studio Ghibli wins, imo.

Disney films, as enjoyable as they are (talking about the animated films, not this new 3D crap), basically follow a formula of old fairytale/story + songs + romance; it gets old after awhile. Ghibli films on the other hand, have always touched my heart, stirred my emotions, etc etc.

As for the argument about Disney's originality; I don't care as long as long as they got permission from the creators of the original work. Ghibli has based its films off other things too --- IIRC, Nausicaa was a manga originally, Howl's Moving Castle & Grave of the Fireflies were books, and... there are probably others.

Another thing that's pissing me off about new disney movies is that they are all 3d and always have animal characters. Getting quite sick of these penguins.

Ghibli movies are an artform, almost surreal, disney was good in its past but today, the only good thing I like about them is their theme parks.

I must admit that I don't know Ghibili So I can't compare. But you are right about the Disney 3D Movies. They are really lame.

I like Disney better because I guess I kind of grew up with it. But now, I'm not so sure cos all disney ever does is team up with pixar and produce boring movies (apart from Monster inc. ) Studio Ghibli is good aswell but I've only seen Whisper of the heart and Kiki's delivery service and my neighbour totoro, but they're all very good!

Disney or Studio Ghibli - 10-21-2007, 01:56 PM

I put both but only because I like all the old Disney classic things I grew up with like The Little Mermaid and series of Aladdin. Studio Ghibli is growing on me only because I only a few things from it like Spirited Away.

So Ghibli must stay small if it wants to produce as good animes as it is now.
And I agree with you on this.
