Some of the rumors are undoubtfully hilarious. I honestly never heard people spreading that he got pregnant, so when I read that I near about pissed in my pants laughing.
People want answers...so when they don't get them they make them up themselves. One of the most believeable rumors was that he was trying to become a school teacher...but I doubt that's even true.

That's sad.
 I doubt we'll ever know why he left. In recent interviews I don't think anyone has mentioned and it seems to be pushed in the past.
