Searching for music... -
03-08-2010, 06:50 AM
Hello,
I have a few questions concerning some Japanese music I heard a little while ago. 1st: I heard the following, a hauntingly beautiful melody, atop the Tokyo Metropolitan Government building observation deck when I visited Japan in September. YouTube - Tokyo Metro-Gov Building Observation Deck << Somebody identified it for me as a song from the Miyazaki film, Kiki's Delivery Service and since, I've found other versions of it on the internet, but I thoroughly enjoy this version and I would like to get my hands on a good copy. If anybody could provide any leads I would be positively thrilled! It is called (in English, anyway) "On a clear day" or "On a sunny day". 2nd: I was searching for Japanese folk songs a while ago on youtube and I came across the traditional, Sakura. Somehow in my searches I came across a video of a Japanese guy (an idol, perhaps?) playing guitar and singing a song to a bunch of schoolgirls in a large auditorium. (The girls were so happy they were crying.) I didn't think to take note of the song or artist but now the song won't leave my head and it's driving me nuts. I only remember the lyrics: "Sakura, sakura, (blah blah blah blah blah blah blah)....." It goes to a tune something like this: YouTube - sakura.mov Thanks much for any help! =) -Seth |

Thanks + another inquiry... -

allhailhata,
Thanks for your help! That's the song I was looking for. ...I don't know why I didn't think to search 'sakura' in Hiragana. It came up instantly. :P I asked for help translating the accordion girl on another site and one fellow gave me this answer: "I'm pretty sure that the accordion girl said, 'chotto... Kakkoii gaijin onisan, bikurishita' I would translate this as 'just a sec... a cool/sharp foreign gentleman, whoa/I was surprised.' This can definitely be taken as a compliment! " *blush* I recorded a few audio bits when I was in Japan because I felt my photographs-and even my writing-couldn't capture the experience as well as the audio could. It breaks my heart to listen to it though. I will return one day! Thanks, also, for the info on Tokyo Boogie Woogie. ------------------- siokan, Thanks for your answer. The song I'm looking for is actually this one, though: YouTube - 「魔女の宅急便」より「晴れた日に」他 2台のマリンバとマンドリン It's orchestrated but it's different than the one in my link. Most versions I hear use heavy instrumentation or sound like a musicbox but the one in my link is very simple. It seems the main instruments are harp and flute. SAKURA by Naotarou Moriyama is the other song I was looking for. Thanks. --------------------- One more question, if I may...is anyone familiar with the song that plays in the Ghibli Museum zoetrope room? YouTube]YouTube - Living Anime @ The Ghibli Museum - Living Anime @ The Ghibli Museum It's quite beautiful + I'd like to obtain it. Thanks to all for your assistance! -Seth |

Ghibli music has a tendency to be remixed, remixed, and remixed some more... Then sold in countless compilations. There are whole areas in CD shops dedicated to remixed Ghibli compilations.... So I wasn`t even going to bother looking for it. But - I have that specific CD.
The version playing sounds like the AUN J Classic Orchestra version. If you have iTunes you should be able to listen and check. It is the 4th track. I can`t be 100% certain because of the background noise and low volume of your recording, but it sounds very close. |
