I read the posts about this "Parkour" but I am still confused. What is the concept? To learn how to dodge and evade obstacles? This principle can also be used in day to day problems?

Could someone please elaborate more? How can you overcome branches, and walls and rails? Do you mean by running and jumping across them? If that's the case then that is pretty interesting.

In a lot of Asian cinema martial artists like Tony Jaa, and Jet Li are able to run and jump on/through almost anything. Is it because they have studied Parkour?

Interesting. A lot of martial arts movies use this technique.

Does anyone know the origins of this? (I could look it up) But then that would end the discussion.

Could this help with balance problems, because I would like to walk or dodge things while fighting with out falling back and hurting my self I have friends who do it, but they won't teach me cause they think I'll end up killing my self while trying to jump a full distance of 6 inches

Parkour (sometimes abbreviated to PK) or l'art du déplacement (English: the art of displacement) is an activity with the aim of moving from one point to another as efficiently and quickly as possible, using principally the abilities of the human body.[2][3] It is meant to help one overcome obstacles, which can be anything in the surrounding environment — from branches and rocks to rails and concrete walls — and can be practiced in both rural and urban areas. Parkour practitioners are referred to as traceurs, or traceuses for females.[4]

Founded by David Belle in France, parkour focuses on practicing efficient movements to develop your body and mind to be able to overcome obstacles in an emergency. Also may be a form of entertainment or as a pastime.
