Clay I don't know, grass is fun though. There's still quite a few local clubs up and down NZ where you can go and play free after hours although they're slowly getting rid of that thanks to vandalism and such.

Tennis a' go go. -

I know that tennis is a popular sport in Japan, and I love tennis to death.
Trouble is -- I'M NO GOOD AT IT!! I'm preparing to move to Japan for University - are there any hobby clubs for tennis? Or maybe lessons for beginners? I would like to join an actual competitive team, but I'm just not ready yet... |

My host mum in Hiroshima is a tennis coach, so when I visit there we always go to play some tennis. The clay/dirt courts in Japan are of shocking quality though. Maybe about 1/5 balls bounce straight instead of deviating to the left or right.
There are some hardcourts though which are of very good quality. I played in an indoor stadium and the net was perfect and there was masses of room all around the court for the angled shots. I'd advise playing on hardcourts if you can find some. |
