yes he did, I thought it was a bit harsh but I had read that Shang Xiang was forced to marry Liu Bei by Sun Quan's orders to gain Shu's trust, but she ended up falling in love with him and he had loved her from the beginning. A tragic story. |

Yes. But... Correct me if im wrong but it says that after Liu Bei died, Shang Xiang suicide by throwing herself at the river. Sounds more like Oichi from Samurai warrior. Oichi's husband Azai Nagamasa killed him self (i still have no idea why), she did marry another man but he died again so she has no choice but she suicide.

Zhou You hatched a plan to seize the city of Jingzhou by luring Liu Bei into a trap. He convinced Sun Quan to use his sister SSX as a bait by way of a proposed marriage, since it was known that Liu Bei's wife, Gan, had recently passed away. However when it came to SSX mother that her daugther was to be used in a treacherous ploy, she was not amused. Upon meeting Liu Bei at the Ganlu monastery she was so impressed by his bearing that she decided to marry her daugther to him for real, and dismissed the hidden soldiers Zhou You had placed to ambush Liu Bei. Zhou was flummoxed to learn that Liu Bei was still alive and married to SSX for real ^^; The story is not forthcoming with details of Liu Bei and SSX love life, but it is certain they had very little time to actually devellop romantic love. After the marriage Liu Bei had to escape Wu and never met SSX again. He died of illness after the battle of Yi Ling and SSX story of suicide out of grief might just be poetic licence from Luo Guanzhong, author of ROTK.
