The best way is most likely a combination of all of those, really. And it also depends very heavily on your learning style and your determination.
Wait, D and E probably aren`t going to get you far at all. I personally went with G. :P Leapt from greetings and bodily function (I`m hungry, I`m thirsty, I`m sleepy, where is the toilet?) to functional fluency in less than 6 months. (Please don`t mistake that for true fluency - that took a bit longer.) |

If you memorize things easily, learn the sentence structure, then memorize TONS of words every day and plug in the words into sentences, you know what I mean? If you simply pick up on things easily, then just listen to lots of Japanese dramas, (you can find tons online) anime, manga, and listen to Japanese music as often as possible. Of course you can't learn Japanese ONLY by doing this, but it's the closest thing you'll get for being free and nearly effortless. If you have some extra cash, and are in High school/college, then get into a class of Japanese. Basically every college offers these. Or the alternate, and just find a teacher. Maybe try Rosetta Stone. This might work, I have never tried it though. So I'm not sure. The last thing I would suggest is finding one of those free language learning sites on the web. livemocha.com is a start. But those are sometimes "iffy." Again, you can't rely ONLY on these sites to become fluent. Any combination of these would be even more effective. For me, I simple studied lots of sentence structures, and downloaded a Japanese-English dictionary, and started memorizing. Pretty effective, and you can work at your own pace. I also watch Japanese drama and listen to Jmusic everyday. Hope this helps. 猿も木から落ちる

That will only help if you go to class and learn systematically. Natives won't have a clue how Japanese works just like half of English speakers wouldn't have a clue what a past participle is.
