i know its kinda mean but my friends say BUSU to point out ugly people. =P

also when theres a awkward moment, they say SHEEEEEEEEEEN.

so example. you say a joke, and some one says something that goes over the line and theres a awkward pause... some one will say Sheeeeeeeeeen.

If it were used, "chikusho" would be considered something like an insult, I suppose. But at least when used in the media (i.e. TV, anime, manga, movies), it most often translates into "damn it."

"Dete ike" is just a really rude way of saying "get out." Sort of like what you would say to your younger sibling if they're in your room...or perhaps an obnoxious person ^_^;

Although "chikusho" indeed means "damn" moreso than more extreme insults, it is incorrect to say that swearwords are used in Japan by Japanese freely. It's extremely rude, and if you were to ever say them in Japan, you would get more than just funny looks.

Ironically, in anime and manga they're used very frequently, but that is an inaccurate depiction of what everyday Japanese language is like.

You do know that "busu" is intended to be used only with women, right? I hope none of the people your friends called that knew Japanese and/or were male...^_^;

And it isn't kind of mean, it's very mean. It's pretty much akin to calling someone an "ugly bitch."

Even harmless-seeming words like "baka" are not frequently used; though "baka" is more likely to be used than the other insult words.

And it's absolutely taboo to call someone older than you "baka." Maybe among your friends it's okay, but don't ever do it to a Japanese! They won't like it; a friend of mine learned that the hard way.
