there might be a misunderstanding concerning "work visa".
there is no actual visa called work visa in japan, however there r plenty of visas that allow u to work, some in a very limited sector, some with broader definitions. most visas and especially the most common ones held by ppl from developed or industrialised countries require a university degree*, however not the entertainment or artist visa. MOFA: A Guide to Japanese Visas - Types and Categories of Visa *this is in no way a fact, but a mere feeling that i have. |

I am French so I don't realize, but does "Nipjob" sound uncool? More seriously, nipjob is not a company but a "wanabee" personal site and forum about job seeking in Japan. I have just created it and the content is close to ... nothing Actually I am looking for Japan's veteran to help me makink the forum "living" and to give their advices about their experience in Japan. I spent a lot of time looking for japan job seeking specialized site and forums, but I couldn't find much so I decided to create mine. |

This is from Wikipedia: Nip is a derogatory word for a Japanese person. It is derived from "Nippon" (mispronounced with a short "i" sound), the Japanese term for Japan. Usage in this context probably peaked around the time of World War II. It is seldom used this way today. Heard frequently on the WWII-based sitcom McHale's Navy. I know some people find it even more offensive than "Jap". Just something to thing about. |

Okay I think I should be more clear in what I want.
I want to go to Japan and write music. Now, one inquiry would be how active/open the music industry there is. If I am not an established musician but an aspiring one would I be able to obtain an entertainer visa? Secondly, I will want to keep myself afloat with other jobs. I have a few questions regarding this. Will I be able to do so without a university degree? What skills besides English(which I already have) would be useful in obtaining jobs? Would I actually be able to earn enough money to have a roof over my head and eat 3 meals a day? It would be even better if someone could give a rough estimate of how much it would cost to live there for a month, on minimal expenses. Lastly. For what things would I require a university degree? |

Sorry I begin with the last question
You "require" a university degree for any type of Visa that gives the permission to work in Japan. But again there is no requirement. Visa are given on case by case. The reason behind is that the Japanese government try to protect its own workforce, so that jobs that don't necessit to be graduated are given to Japanese people in priority. If you want to live in Japan, you should expect to spend around 150000 yen a month (guest house + food + keitai + internet + go out at night) But I know people that have "survived" with far less. |
